NEW RECORDING RELEASE
GILLES TREMBLAY - LOUISE BESSETTE - ENSEMBLE AVENTA
Montréal, April 18th, 2007: Centrediscs, the recording label of the Canadian Music Centre, is releasing a recording of works from Quebecois composer Gilles Tremblay, with Louise Bessette at the piano. As a result, this great specialist of contemporary music has created on record the work Envoi, a piano concerto.
An intense musical work, Envoi unites the outstanding Louise Bessette and the ensemble Aventa, under the baton of William Linwood. This piece for piano and fifteen instrumentalists breaks away from the traditional concerto by establishing a musical dialogue that merges all the players. The piano, central device of the work, summons the instruments of the orchestra to repeat, through their sound, the motifs and ideas that it proposed to them. Emission, reception, mimetic and contrasts are the axes exploited by the composer in this single movement concerto. It was in May 2006, in Victoria, that the production of this work took place, in the presence of the composer. The performance was dedicated to the memory of the great pianist Claude Helffer, creator of the concerto in 1982. Two others compositions — Le signe du lion and Solstices — are part of this wonderful recording of one of Quebec’s greatest composers.
A captivating performer, Louise Bessette has forged herself a tremendous reputation for her inspired and energetic interpretation of twentieth-century music masterpieces. She performs frequently with renowned formations and is seen regularly in festivals throughout Europe and America. She won the First Prize at the Concours International de Musique Contemporaine in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, the First Prize and the Special Prize for Piano at the International Gaudeamus Competition, the 1991 Flandre-Québec Award, and the Prix Opus for « soloist of the year » 1996-97, awarded by the Conseil Québécois de la Musique. Piano teacher at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal since 1996, she is transmitting to young virtuosos her passionate love of music.
